The gas turbine blades manufactured by SLM 3D metal printing is made of powdered high temperature alloy resistant polycrystalline Inconel 625.
The gas turbine blades should be able to withstand high temperature, high pressure and strong centrifugal force. When working at full load, the speed can reach 1600 km / h, which is twice as fast as that of Boeing 737 aircraft. It carries a load of 11 tons, equivalent to a fully loaded London double decker bus. The maximum temperature of the blade during turbine operation is 1250 ℃.
So far, casting or forging technology has been used to manufacture gas turbine blades. Both methods are time-consuming, laborious and expensive. For the manufacturing of gas turbine blades with additive materials, the metal powder is heated and melted layer by layer by SLM 3D printing process, and the metal solid is generated layer by layer until the whole blade model is formed. Using additive manufacturing technology to produce a new gas turbine blade, the whole cycle from design to production can be shortened from two years to two months, which greatly improves the production efficiency.
