Designing radiators for LED small electronic devices requires a delicate balance between design requirements: they need to be as small and lightweight as possible while providing extremely powerful heat dissipation. The aluminum LED radiator of traditional design is too heavy. We can use topology optimization to reduce quality and sacrifice cooling power as little as possible by SLM 3D printing.

Heat dissipation performance limits the miniaturization of portable computers, power electronic equipment, and high-power aluminum LED lighting. High end technology solutions from laboratories usually cannot meet the mass production and deployment of consumer products. The use of thermal management solutions, such as industrial SLM metal 3D printing (additive manufacturing), can fill the gap and maintain the cooling of damaging electronic equipment when the available space is seriously limited.

Due to freedom of design, 3D printing thermal management components provide the same or higher efficiency as traditional manufacturing components, but require less space. This manufacturing technology can apply larger surfaces, complex geometry and conformal cooling channels. The LED radiator operates with the same cooling performance, but 81% less space than the original design. This is a huge improvement in a very short development time.

In addition to the radiator, there are numerous other applications related to the optimization of heat transfer space management, such as high-power LED, laser, automatic driving, power electronics and chemical microreactor.
