HP Multi Jet Fusion Technology can 3D print 10 times faster. So, you can receive complex and highly detailed parts quickly and in a fraction of the time. It's perfect for prototyping or manufacturing.

HP Multi Jet Fusion and Nylon

The HP Multi Jet Fusion process is a big user of polyamides, whether PA12 or PA11. What's special about HP's technology is that it offers a higher recovery rate than traditional SLS technology, and then about 70% of the unused powder from the 3D printing process is mixed into new polyamide powder, maximizing the minimized waste. Another interesting point is that HP now offers the possibility to use its 380/580 3D printer series to dye polyamide powder during the 3D printing process, thus being able to obtain multi-colored parts.

How does HP Multi Jet Fusion technology work?

Step 1 – The print head spreads a thin layer of material powder on the build platform

Step 2– The inkjet head moves over the powder layer and deposits two different types of liquid agents onto it.

Step 3– The heating unit moves over the powder bed. Wherever you add the fixer, the layers below it fuse together to form a shape, while the areas with the refiner remain a loose powder and don't melt.

Step 4 – Clean the powder to give the printed part the desired geometry.

Step 5 – To complete the printing process, the entire powder bed and the printed parts within it are moved to a separate handling station. Here, most of the loose unmelted powder is vacuumed, allowing it to be reused rather than generating excessive waste.

In order to further improve the surface quality of MJF parts. Vibratory grinding is a common finishing option for smoother surfaces. The default color for MJF parts is gray. If the part needs to have a different color, it needs to be dyed during post-processing. Producing bright, vibrant colors can be challenging due to the natural gray color. However, darker colors such as black can be easily obtained.

We use HP 4200 and 5200 printers, which enable faster build times compared to other powder-based additive manufacturing techniques. HP 3D printers produce commercial-grade parts with a higher surface finish and higher mechanical properties than other 3D printing technologies.
