Jul 29, 2022

Automakers have been trying to use 3D printing technology for parts development, trial production and customization, but the number of parts produced by 3D printing is limited, and it is mainly used in some high-end models. GM's Cadillac has released a message that will further promote the application of 3D printing technology in mass-produced vehicles.

Cadillac's flagship electric sedan will go on sale next year, and the CELESTIQ will be the first production vehicle built at GM's Global Technology Center. models, more than 100.

The electric vehicle, which is driving innovation across the GM supplier community, is expected to use more than 100 3D-printed parts. Includes structural and cosmetic parts, as well as polymer and metal parts. Additionally, the production facility itself will utilize additively manufactured tools, jigs, and gauges during the assembly process.

Now it is not surprising that 3D printing is used in the automotive industry. A car has more than 100 parts, indicating that 3D printing technology is becoming more and more mature and can be used for final parts. Rather than previously only being used for proof of concept, prototyping, R&D validation, etc.
